Ukrainians and Russians are not one nation: Zelensky responds to Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to Russian leader Vladimir Putin's claims that Ukrainians and Russians are one people, artificially divided in modern history.

In an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, a reporter asked Zelensky to comment on Putin's statement that “we are one entity.”

“Let’s finally understand this: we are definitely not one people. Yes, we have many common things. We share a common part of history, memories, neighborhood, relatives, a common victory over fascism, and common tragedies. Yes, all of this is extremely important, and we remember it. But, I repeat once again, we are not one people. If we were one people, then in Moscow, the Ukrainian currency would probably be circulating, and the yellow-blue flag would be flying over the State Duma. Thus, each of the two countries has its own path,” Zelensky added.

It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to a journalist's question about why Ukraine is not included in the “unfriendly countries list,” said: “I do not believe that the Ukrainian people are unfriendly; no, we are one entity. However, the current leadership of Ukraine is clearly unfriendly to us.”
