Mother See Welcomes Pashinyan's Proposal for Dialogue with Spiritual Leaders
In relation to the extraordinary parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 20, 2021, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has issued a statement.
“By God's mercy, the parliamentary elections, despite the pre-election tensions, sharp confrontations, and recorded violations, have proceeded relatively peacefully and without serious incidents. It is extremely important for the Church that the political force taking on the leadership of the country can ensure and guarantee nation-beneficial solutions to vital issues concerning the security of Armenia, Artsakh, and our faithful people's national identity and value system, as well as education, culture, public solidarity, and other issues relevant to nationwide inclusion.
The Mother See and our Church's entire spiritual class have regularly expressed their positions and concerns regarding such critical matters and will continue to remain consistent in protecting state, national, and spiritual primary interests in the aforementioned areas.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin positively assesses the comments made by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the rally yesterday, emphasizing the importance of solidarity, unity, and the mobilization of national potential in establishing safe, prosperous, and progressive living for the homeland. There is also a necessity to put an end to the abusive language and hate speech in the political sphere.
Furthermore, the proposal for dialogue with spiritual leaders made by the Acting Prime Minister is commendable. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has always advocated for such positions and expects that the newly formed government will take practical and consistent steps to implement their own proposal for cooperation with the Church, as well as in promoting public solidarity.
The spiritual class, aware of its spiritual mission and its importance, especially in such crisis situations, must continue to do everything necessary so that our people can overcome the difficulties and challenges of life, so that this small fragment of our homeland can find the strength within itself to restore its security and stability, continuing the path towards new centuries.
We ask for the blessing and support of Almighty God for our country and our faithful people. May God protect and preserve Armenia and Artsakh, our homeland, in peace and prosperity.”
