Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Shushi that “Turkey supports Azerbaijan's project for the Zangezur corridor,” according to minval.az.
“We consider the Azerbaijani project for the Zangezur corridor very important and we support it,” Erdogan stated. He added that “the implementation of this project will open a new common corridor from east to west, which will be available for all willing parties.”
It is noteworthy that an event for the signing of Turkish-Azerbaijani documents attended by the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan took place in Shushi, particularly, the Shushi declaration was signed.
“Today we are not only talking about the Zangezur corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan and Turkey via road and rail, but we are also taking practical actions,” Aliyev emphasized. According to Aliyev, the signed document contains specific provisions regarding the Zangezur corridor.
“The declaration is based on the historical agreement of Kars. It pertains to various areas of cooperation,” he explained, adding that this declaration regarding the confederation raises the relations between Baku and Ankara to the highest level. Ilham Aliyev mentioned that the Shushi declaration touches upon issues of mutual assistance in the defense sector between the two countries.
