There Will Be No 'Gas Enclaves': Robert Kocharian
At the time of my departure from the presidency, the pace of gasification in Armenia was ahead of that in Russia. This was stated by Armenia's second president, leader of the 'Armenia' coalition, and candidate for Prime Minister Robert Kocharian during a meeting with residents of the village of Tsaghkahovit.
The former president recalled that in 2008 there were 480,000 subscribers. “The country was 90 percent gasified. In terms of the level of gasification, we were ahead of Russia. Gasification was one of my priorities,” Kocharian noted.
Regarding why gasification was not fully realized after his departure from the presidency, Kocharian suggested that it could be related to the rise in gas prices in 2009. He speculated that there may have been a belief that the population was unable to pay.
In response to comments that some villages are essentially in a 'enclave' situation in terms of gas supply, Kocharian assured that such 'gas enclaves' will not exist.
