Emergency Situation at Nubarashen Landfill: Firefighters Risk Their Lives Fighting Flames and Smoke for Hours
For over 2 hours now, an emergency situation has arisen at the Nubarashen landfill in Yerevan, known to the public. The strong fire and smoke are even visible from various neighborhoods in Yerevan and the city of Masis. Four firefighting units from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, firefighters, and operational teams from the Crisis Management National Center have arrived on the scene.
The firefighters are being assisted by landfill workers and staff from the relevant division of the Yerevan municipality. Upon the order of Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, water is continuously supplied to the firefighters by the municipality's water trucks.
Officers from the Nubarashen police department, led by the department head, are providing enhanced services on site to ensure that curious citizens do not park their vehicles, allowing firefighters to work safely.
A photojournalist reports that the fire and smoke are severely complicating the work of the firefighters and landfill employees, as the firefighters are risking their lives in many areas, using rubber hoses to transport water and extinguish the fire's hotspots. It is likely that these efforts will continue for several days, as the area is quite large.
