They are afraid of me. Incidentally, they are right to be. Robert Kocharyan
During meetings, when speaking with people, it is often said that the country has been left without care, and there is nothing worse than that. This was mentioned by the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, who leads the "Hayastan" alliance, during a meeting with citizens of the Aragatsotn Province and representatives of the alliance.
“If that feeling arises within a family, a process of disintegration begins. If that feeling exists on a national scale, then the process of disintegration of your country has started. We need to regain the sense of ownership that Armenia is not abandoned after June 20. We have presented our programs and the team with which we come to solve extremely difficult problems. Whatever we do, no matter how nice programs we write, without your involvement, they will remain hanging in the air,” he stated.
Addressing the question of why the "Homeland Salvation Movement" had no success and why Robert Kocharyan did not lead it, Kocharyan replied, “At that time, it was assumed that the parliament should elect a new prime minister for a one-year term as a temporary government. Vazgen Manukyan had met with me and suggested that I actively enter this process. The situation wasn’t such that he had a great desire; he took on a heavy responsibility by entering this struggle.
My response was as follows: if we are trying to elect another person through parliament, then I am the last person for whom this parliament could vote. They are afraid of me; we all know that. Incidentally, they are right to be.
We needed to nominate as the leader of the movement a person who had not been imprisoned, against whom artificial charges had not been fabricated, someone who had not experienced such injustices, making it easier to address that issue. It was enough for 25-30 deputies to leave the "My Step" faction and cooperate with other unified factions to elect a new prime minister. We would have avoided these elections, and a year later, we could have organized elections in a more peaceful environment. But unfortunately, many of them remained. Since those 25-30 did not come out, yes, the movement faced certain difficulties, as there was also no explosion from the people; sufficient mass was not gathered. That is why I did not appear on the streets from the first day, alongside the 17 forces participating in that struggle. My supporters were there,” he concluded.
