“Onik Gasparyan Will Have to Answer for Shushi,” Nikol Pashinyan

Today in Abovyan, Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the recent statement of the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Onik Gasparyan, during a meeting with his supporters, noting that it was a direct response to his own remarks. “The former Chief of Staff is making statements. It’s horrific. Yes, you can still ask why I appointed them. I didn’t have the option to bring a general from another country; it had to be from among our generals. Importantly, before appointing the Chief of Staff, I consulted and was told that there are two individuals ready to take on the position of Chief of Staff. I have appointed those two persons; I didn’t pull them out of thin air. Both are high-ranking, experienced military personnel.

“And today these individuals are making statements. I am simply bowing before you because of the amount of lies I have been subjected to... so many lies. The person to whom I granted a general’s title is now renouncing what he said in front of ten people. I didn’t want to say it, but I will give him another opportunity; the more they speak, the better. Onik Gasparyan will still have to answer for Shushi. He must explain to me in court why the group that was supposed to help Shushi arrived two days late. But that’s another topic,” he said.
