Nairi Hokhikyan Urges Not to Use Specific Terminology

Media expert Nairi Hokhikyan has written on his Telegram page: “Terms such as ‘state border’ between Armenia and Azerbaijan, ‘Syunik and Azerbaijan border’, and ‘Gegharkunik and Azerbaijan border’ benefit solely from Azerbaijan's perspective, as they give an appearance of validity to Azerbaijani claims in the realm of international law.

Dear fellow journalists, politicians, and officials, I earnestly request that you do not use the aforementioned phrases. There is a ‘line of contact’ between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the question of where and when the ‘state border’ will pass is a matter to be resolved over time and through national consensus.

Please consider that just as the terms ‘occupied territories’ and ‘Armenia and Artsakh’ have for years distorted our national and state thinking, using such terms now can also cause harm. I reiterate: use ‘line of contact’ instead of ‘state border’.”
