The Situation in Syunik and Gegharkunik Regions Discussed by Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Sergey Shoigu

On May 28, the acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, met with the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergey Shoigu, in Moscow. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

During the meeting, the progress of the peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, the situation created in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia, as well as issues related to Armenian-Russian bilateral military cooperation and regional security were discussed.

The head of the Armenian defense agency presented the details of the infiltration of Azerbaijani armed units into the territory of Armenia and the actions being taken by the Armenian Armed Forces. Vagharshak Harutyunyan emphasized that the Azerbaijani provocations conducted under the false pretext of “border clarification” are absolutely unacceptable, and that Azerbaijani units must immediately leave the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.

The parties considered possible options for resolving the situation and reached an agreement on necessary actions.
