Edmon Marukyan Issues Statement
Armenian National Assembly member Edmon Marukyan wrote: “During the wartime, the government deceived and manipulated the people for 44 days, assuring them that we were winning. In the end, it turned out that not only were we not winning, but we were being crushed and losing.
The authorities assured the public that no decision could be made regarding the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without considering the views of the citizens. However, it eventually became clear that the country’s Prime Minister secretly signed a concealed document away from everyone, even his teammates.
But what is happening now? No one knows. The government, which has drawn no lessons from the war, is once again engaged in shadowy negotiations and is not informing the public about their awaited fate. People are in uncertainty and ignorance; residents of Syunik, Gegharkunik, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, and Ararat provinces do not know what might happen to them tomorrow.
I urge Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and representatives of the ruling team to talk to the people and explain in detail the real state of affairs and developments. Do not lie and hide anything, avoid shadowy agreements, and do not sign controversial documents behind the people's backs.
The depth of the problem is compounded by the fact that Nikol Pashinyan is merely acting as Prime Minister, and an acting official cannot grant themselves unfettered and unaccountable liberties, especially on matters crucial to the state.”
