Elderly Man Beaten in Daylight in Yerevan, Passed Away Hours Later: Ruben Melikyan
Human rights defender Ruben Melikyan made a post on his Facebook page noting that an 80-year-old man was beaten in the daylight, resulting in the grandfather's death hours later. Melikyan's post is as follows:
“I just learned about a horrific incident that occurred two days ago in the Nor Nork community of Yerevan. For unknown (presumably domestic) reasons, an 80-year-old man was brutally beaten in broad daylight, which led to the grandfather's death hours later.
I have strong reasons to suspect that the murderer will succeed in getting away with it. My suspicions were further reinforced when I learned that a criminal case was initiated under Article 120 of the RA Criminal Code for causing serious harm to health through negligence (the maximum penalty being 2 months of detention).
I inform the supposed 'merchants of blood' wearing law enforcement insignia – if you think you can treat ‘neglected’ people in such a way and get away with it, I regret to disappoint you: it won’t work. I will personally take charge of this case.”
