What Happened, When Did You Remember About Insult and Defamation? Urikhanyan to Authorities
What happened, and when did you remember about insult and defamation? I, of course, support that such issues should be discussed, that there should be accountability, and that it should be criminalized, but where did this come from?
This was stated by independent MP Tigran Urikhanyan during a session in the National Assembly on February 11.
It is noteworthy that the Vice President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, is proposing amendments to the Civil Code of the Republic of Armenia, increasing the compensation for insult from 1 million to 5 million drams, and for defamation from 2 million to 10 million drams.
“How is it that almost all of the people sitting in this hall have heard terrible things about themselves or their relatives at different times, including your humble servant, that sometimes you think whether it's worth continuing your activity? But on the other hand, there are people in this hall who embody immorality, and every morning, as dawn breaks, some story like that is brought to someone’s head. Now, why have you brought this up, because the problem has knocked on the door?” Urikhanyan addressed the deputies.
