Arrests Begin at Moscow's Manezhnaya Square During Navalny Supporters' Gathering
Arrests have begun at Moscow's Manezhnaya Square, where gatherings of supporters of opposition leader Alexey Navalny are taking place.
It is worth noting that the Simonovsky Court in Moscow has annulled Navalny's conditional sentence in the "Ivy Rocher" case and replaced it with a real prison term of 3.5 years in a general regime penal colony. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.
The court found sufficient evidence for the conviction. Previously, Navalny had successfully avoided the substitution of his conditional sentence with a real prison term three times. The denial decisions were made by the Lublin Court in Moscow in 2015 and 2016, and in 2017, the Simonovsky Court in Moscow also extended his probation without raising the question of sending him to prison.
The decision to alter the suspended sentence has not yet come into force; both parties have ten days to file an appeal.
