Weapons Will Not Be Provided to Residents of Border Communities: Government Rejects Opposition's Proposal
The government has rejected the proposal by opposition MP Vahe Hakobyan to provide weapons to residents of border communities. The proposed legislation aimed to grant firearms to residents of border areas for self-defense purposes in the event of a declaration of a state of emergency or martial law due to military operations.
The government justified its rejection of the proposal by stating:
“In the Republic of Armenia, firearms are provided to residents of border communities for self-defense purposes only in accordance with the procedure and types of weapons defined by the decisions of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in the event of a declaration of a state of emergency or martial law due to military operations.”
