"Our strike groups can create chaos behind enemy lines": Tonoyan comments on his statement
The former Minister of Defense of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, discussed a previous statement in an interview with Mediamax, where he claimed that "if necessary, our strike groups can create chaos behind enemy lines." He noted that in the vision published on June 9, 2020, regarding the priorities for the development of the defense sector and the armed forces, he stated that a large-scale rearmament process had begun, starting from small arms to long-range missile systems and combat multifunctional aviation, but emphasized that they were at the beginning of the road.
"We did not manage to prepare for a 'nondescript' war involving the use of fifth-generation weapons," said the former minister.
Tonoyan also addressed the discussions and accusations that emerged after the July battles in Tavush, suggesting that these events should not have caused additional anxiety for Azerbaijan and Turkey. "The 'additional concerns' of Azerbaijan and Turkey were the last things that interested us—the representatives of the Armed Forces. From a military objectives standpoint, the actions of the Armed Forces were almost flawless. However, we were surprised by Aliyev's and the Azerbaijani elite's erratic stance, which was exacerbated by Turkey's rather harsh assurances regarding punishing Armenia for 'failing to grasp regional realities and destabilizing the situation,'" Tonoyan stated.
