70-Year-Old Woman Dies from Frostbite in Gyumri
Vahan Tumasyan, the president of the Shirak Center NGO, which has been implementing social programs and distributing firewood to needy families for years, posted on his Facebook page about the death of a lonely elderly woman.
"A death due to frostbite was registered in Gyumri. Today, at least the first case known to me of a death from frostbite was recorded: a 70-year-old elderly woman living alone, registered at a cottage address, identified as Sh. G. Honestly, I had made it a principle that we would do everything to prevent cases of frostbite from being recorded in Gyumri this year, but alas... We are currently confirming details; no one had applied to us for firewood at her registered address, and she did not have a consumer code for electricity in her name. It is possible that she was not actually living at the address where she was registered. In any case, the elderly woman was buried today by the Gyumri municipality in the section of the "Shirak" cemetery designated for homeless and unclaimed deceased individuals," he wrote.
