Ambassador Victorini Reaffirms EU's Willingness to Support Armenia in Implementing Reforms

On December 29, members of the Armenian National Assembly's Permanent Committee on European Integration, led by Committee Chair Arman Yeghoyan, met with the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Victorini.

The participants discussed a wide range of cooperation issues, particularly the prospects for Armenia-EU cooperation, the situation and developments arising from the war unleashed against Artsakh, and the possibilities for overcoming the socio-economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Andrea Victorini highlighted that various programs aimed at assisting families displaced from Artsakh are currently being implemented through an EU-funded rapid response mechanism.

Victorini reiterated the EU's readiness to support the Republic of Armenia in implementing reforms. In this context, the ambassador mentioned the importance of providing a €9 million grant to support the implementation of judicial reforms in Armenia, as well as an additional €24 million grant to support Armenia in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the completion of the ratification process of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement by the 27 EU member states. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the EU-funded project “Strengthening the Capacities of the National Assembly of Armenia for Further Support in the Oversight and Implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.”
