Yerevan Approves Bill to Eliminate ‘Red Lines’ in First Reading
The National Assembly of Armenia has approved in the first reading a draft law proposed by members of the ‘My Step’ faction, Sisak Gabrielyan and Arusyak Julhakyan, which aims to eliminate ‘red lines’ in 10 out of 12 administrative districts of Yerevan.
The draft law was unanimously accepted with 77 votes in favor. If fully adopted, starting next year, the red lines will be removed from nearly 10 administrative districts, and the Yerevan Municipality will no longer be able to fine citizens based on two photographs.
After the changes, ‘red lines’ will only remain in the Kentron administrative district and certain areas of the Arabkir administrative district. Moreover, citizens will only be fined in cases where there is a 15-minute video evidence confirming the violation.
