Germany's Government Response to Erdogan's Statement
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's offensive statements against French President Emmanuel Macron are unacceptable, especially in the context of the recent murder of a teacher in the suburbs of Paris. This was stated by the official representative of the German government, Steffen Seibert, during a press briefing on Monday.
“The German government is compelled to take into account President Erdogan's statements toward President Macron. They are disgraceful remarks that are entirely unacceptable, particularly against the backdrop of the murder of a teacher by an Islamist extremist,” Seibert said.
The government representative also noted that the Turkish president had criticized the raid conducted by the German police at a mosque in Berlin last week. Seibert emphasized that German law enforcement agencies operate in accordance with the law.
