Results of Pompeo's Separate Meetings with Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers in Washington
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to engage in substantive negotiations regarding the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This was announced by State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, summarizing the outcomes of Pompeo's separate meetings with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington.
“Secretary Pompeo emphasized the necessity to end violence and protect civilians. He also highlighted the importance for both sides to commence substantive discussions under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the conflict based on the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, including the non-use of force, territorial integrity, and equal rights to self-determination for peoples,” stated State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus.
