David Tonoyan in Constant Contact with the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chair and Informed Him About the Situation in Tavush: MoD Spokesperson
Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan is in constant contact with the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chair, Ambassador Andzhey Kasprshchik. This was informed by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Shushan Stepanyan, on her Facebook page.
“During the last conversation, the Minister of Defense informed that the personnel and command of the Armenian military unit have been instructed to maintain restraint. In case of provocations from the adversary towards the borders of Armenia, they should respond as necessary, including the occupation of new favorable positions,” she wrote.
It is noteworthy that according to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, on July 12, around 12:30 PM, Azerbaijani armed forces attempted to breach the state border of Armenia towards Tavush using a UAZ vehicle. After a warning from the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani forces left the UAZ vehicle and returned to their positions.
At 1:45 PM, Azerbaijani armed forces attempted again to capture the Armenian military positions, using artillery fire. However, they were suppressed by the Armenian side and, suffering losses, were pushed back. There were no losses on the Armenian side,” the statement reads.
Later, spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan informed on her Facebook page that the Azerbaijani side resumed shelling towards the same Armenian positions using 82mm mortars and tanks. She further noted that the gunfire continues with varying intensity, and the Armenian armed forces have no losses or injuries. All adversary attempts are targeted and neutralized.
In another post, Shushan Stepanyan stated that the Armenian armed forces are not firing towards Azerbaijani settlements. “Only the engineering infrastructures and technical assets of the Azerbaijani armed forces are being targeted,” she wrote.
