David Tonoyan Discusses The Issue of Individuals Held in Azerbaijan with ICRC Delegation Head
On July 6, Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan received representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia, led by head of the delegation Claire Maitro.
During the meeting, the parties addressed current issues regarding the cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the ICRC delegation in Armenia, as well as agenda activities and potential ways to enhance the effectiveness of their collaboration and future tasks.
The interlocutors discussed the fate of Armenian citizens Karen Ghazaryan and Ara Ghazaryan, who have found themselves in Azerbaijan against their will and are currently in captivity. They emphasized the importance of coordinated work between the ICRC offices in Yerevan and Baku to ensure regular visits and correspondence with family members.
The parties also addressed questions related to clarifying the fates of individuals missing as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as other issues concerning the coordination of work undertaken by the commission dealing with Armenian captives, hostages, and missing persons, in conjunction with the ICRC.
At the end of the meeting, David Tonoyan expressed gratitude to the head of the ICRC in Armenia for the support extended by the delegation to the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in combating the coronavirus pandemic.
