Marukyan Appeals to the CEC to Restore One Parliamentary Mandate of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ Faction
On June 22, I submitted a written request to the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia to restore one parliamentary mandate of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ faction. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan on his Facebook page.
“We have presented legal justifications that the Armenian Electoral Code mandates the presence of at least one-third opposition in parliament, and an analysis of the parliament's regulations directly indicates that only one subject can be considered opposition—the faction,” he wrote. “We will provide additional information about the upcoming CEC meeting and the procedures for considering the application.”
It is noteworthy that Arman Babajanyan, who was also a member of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ faction, announced his withdrawal from the faction on September 6, 2019.
