MP from 'My Step' Calls to Purge Unwanted Lecturers: Armen Avetisyan
Armen Avetisyan wrote on his Facebook page: "The MP from 'My Step' calls to PURGE unwanted lecturers. Today, I raised the issue at the YSU Scientific Council meeting regarding the insult directed at the Armenian academic community by Lulu, a member of 'My Step' faction, from the National Assembly podium.
I proposed to provide an assessment and issue a condemning statement. I would like to remind you that Lulu had suggested yesterday from the NA podium to Minister of Education, Science and Other Spheres Arayik Harutyunyan to PURGE those lecturers who, in recent months, dared to criticize the government and the Prime Minister during online classes.
This is nothing but a call for the persecution of lecturers for expressing their views on issues of public importance or for their opinions. Please inform Lulu and the Minister of Education, Science and Other Spheres that academic freedom entails two very important and fundamental principles: 1. Lecturers and students are free in their discussions in the classroom, 2. Every member of the academic community has the right to express themselves freely on issues of public importance.
