More than 214,000 people participated in local government elections in 2018, says CEC
In 2018, local self-government elections were held in 88 communities. Tigran Mukuchyan, the head of the Central Electoral Commission, noted this during the discussion of the CEC's activities in an extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Armenia on June 25.
Of these elections, 26 were held earlier than scheduled. In 2019, elections were conducted in 82 communities, with 31 taking place ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, elections for community leaders were held in 129 communities, and council member elections in 60. Elections were also held in 6 cities.
A total of 387 polling stations were formed for conducting the elections. A total of 457,188 voters were registered at these polling stations, out of which only 214,181 participated in the elections.
There were 916 candidates who participated in the elections, and none of the candidacy applications were rejected.
