Has the patient diagnosed with COVID-19, mistakenly recorded as 'dead' in medical records, passed away?

Days ago, a video published by a Facebook user became a hot topic of discussion online. The video showed that at the ‘Erebouni’ Medical Center, a patient’s grandfather underwent several tests, it was determined that the identified disease was incurable, he was discharged from the hospital, yet his medical record mistakenly stated that he died from COVID-19, despite the fact that he was still alive.

According to ArmDaily.am, the individual has since died from the diagnosed illness.

Auroranews contacted the communications department of the ‘Erebouni’ Medical Center, where they informed us that the patient was discharged with the agreement and signature of relatives, and his death was not recorded at the hospital. “The patient did not die here; we do not have further details,” said communications department employee Anna Davtyan.

It is worth noting that days ago, ‘Erebouni’ Medical Center released a statement regarding the incident, which we present below:

“A Facebook user posted a video yesterday evening, in response to which we would like to inform the following: The patient was admitted to the intensive care unit with a dissecting aortic aneurysm. His condition was stabilized in the ICU, and a vascular surgeon was called. Considering the severe somatic reasons, it was decided not to proceed with surgery, as surgical intervention could be incompatible with the patient’s life. The patient’s relatives refused further treatment, and he was discharged. Regarding the #COVID-19 test, we note that samples are taken from each patient admitted to ‘Erebouni’ Medical Center, which are sent to the RA Ministry of Health Laboratory. The test results were received a day later and were positive. This means that the patient had already contracted the novel coronavirus upon entering the hospital. Concerning the word ‘dead’ written in the medical history, we report that it was a mistake caused by the overwhelming workload of the intensive care unit. The same document also indicates the health condition of the patient upon discharge from the medical center,” stated the announcement.
