This is the first case whose examination lasted more than a year: Hrayr Tovmasyan on Kocharian's case

We could not avoid discussing the issue regarding Robert Kocharian. This was stated today by the President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, during a conversation with journalists in front of the Court, in response to the question of why the issue was urgently included in the Court's agenda yesterday.

"The law states that a case is removed from suspension after the circumstances that were the basis for the suspension have been resolved. At this moment, there were two grounds for suspension: the opinion from the European Court of Human Rights and the opinion from the Venice Commission. One was published on May 28, and the other on June 18. I myself was informed about it on the evening of June 19. That day was Friday, so when should I have included this issue in the agenda, if not at the first session? And the first session was on Monday. What strange thing do you see here? If I hadn't included it, you should have asked why it wasn't included. It's the same as asking why you came to work,” he said.

Tovmasyan revealed that they received the applications concerning Kocharian in May-June 2019 and noted that this is the first case whose examination lasted more than a year, and the examination was scheduled for July 7, which was also the day of the Constitutional Court's next session.

“There was a case where we examined it at the request of the Prime Minister in three days; it was related to credit agreements. That is normal,” said Hrayr Tovmasyan.
