This is a law adopted by the government, and that norm does not apply to me, says Alvina Gyulumyan on constitutional changes

This change cannot apply to me because I have been in office since August 2014, and I started fulfilling my duties on October 1st. This was stated today, June 23, during a conversation with reporters in front of the Constitutional Court by Constitutional Court member Alvina Gyulumyan, commenting on the recent decision of the National Assembly regarding constitutional amendments that suspend the powers of Constitutional Court members who have served for over 12 years.

News.am reports. In response to the observation that it seems the period when she previously served as a Constitutional Court member is also being taken into account, Gyulumyan replied, “I leave that to your reasoning. I believe that yes, I should serve.”

She added that she does not think the matter will reach judicial contestation: “This is a law adopted by the government, and that norm does not apply to me.”

Gyulumyan did not wish to comment on the presented decision: “First, it is too early for that, and second, I do not rule out that someone may appeal to the Constitutional Court, and I do not want to constrain myself from participating in the examination of that case in the future.”
