Prosecutor's Office Appeals for Arrest of BHK Leader Gagik Tsarukyan
The Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has filed an appeal against the decision of the first instance court of Yerevan, which rejected the request to apply arrest as a preventive measure against Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). This was confirmed in a conversation with Tert.am by the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia.
It is noteworthy that the National Security Service (NSS) had initiated a criminal case regarding the distribution of electoral bribes in favor of the 'Tsarukyan' alliance during the 2017 parliamentary elections and filed charges against Tsarukyan after obtaining the National Assembly's consent on June 16, under the provisions of Article 38-154.2 of the RA Criminal Code (giving bribes to voters, receiving bribes, violating the ban on charity during elections, or obstructing the free expression of voters' will).
On June 21, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction had previously rejected the request to use arrest as a preventive measure against Gagik Tsarukyan.
