Prosecutor's Office to Appeal Decision to Release Kocharian on Bail
The Prosecutor's Office will file a cassation appeal against the decision of the judge of the Court of Appeals, Arsen Nikoghosyan, to release former Armenian President Robert Kocharian on bail. This information was provided to 24news by the Public Relations Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
"The Prosecutor's Office has repeatedly stated that we are at a stage of judicial review where the risks of the defendant exerting illegal influence on participants in the criminal proceedings while being at large are significantly high, and no measure of restraint other than detention is capable of neutralizing the risks of proper conduct of the defendant. Moreover, since the case has been presented to the court, the phase of judicial examination has not changed until now, and after several discussions on this matter, both the court examining the case and the appellate court have confirmed the presence of the mentioned risk," stated the Public Relations Department of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia. Based on this, we can say that a cassation appeal will be submitted by the Prosecutor's Office against the court order.
