In Armenia, the authorities will never succeed in silencing the opposition through blackmail and violence: BHK statement
The political council of the Prosperous Armenia Party has issued a statement in which it says:
“Since early this morning, the authorities have resorted to 'legal terror.' We view this as a response to the recent speech of the BHK president, in which he unequivocally addressed the acute problems facing the country, the imminent serious risks, and the only possible solution – a new, effective government and serious changes in the country's governance system.
By failing to tackle the pandemic, becoming responsible for a large number of infections and deaths, and understanding that social issues are not going away, the Armenian authorities have adopted a policy of silencing dissenters at all costs. This is a futile path that leads to new risks.
The government avoids accurately perceiving reality, acknowledging its failures, and finding solutions in an atmosphere of public solidarity. Since early this morning, the violence unleashed by the authorities has turned into impunity. During this time, many activists from the BHK, including parliament members, have been forcibly detained in front of everyone, with police using disproportionate force against them.
Currently, investigations into Gagik Tsarukyan are ongoing at the National Security Service.
The Prosperous Armenia Party reaffirms its determination to fight for the interests of our state and people through all civilized and legal means, without yielding to illegal pressures. In Armenia, the authorities will never again succeed in silencing the opposition through blackmail and violence. We are determined to continue our just struggle, faithful to the letter and spirit of the law, for the salvation of Armenia and the Armenian people.”
