Small Slaughterhouses to Be Built, Says Food Safety Authority

The Food Safety Inspection Body continues its regional meetings with entrepreneurs interested in engaging in slaughterhouse activities. Today, a meeting was organized between the Deputy Head of the Food Safety Authority, Arthur Shatvoryan, and entrepreneurs operating lamb slaughter points in the village of Norapat, Armavir Province.

Discussions focused on the requirements for small slaughterhouses and the pathways for transforming existing slaughter points into fully compliant slaughterhouses, how to obtain the necessary permits, and the opportunity for legal operations in accordance with the mandatory slaughterhouse requirements set to take effect on July 1.

Arthur Shatvoryan assured that investments in the construction of slaughterhouses are necessary and justified, as the deadlines can no longer be altered. Starting July 1, the Food Safety Authority will implement its full range of functions to monitor compliance with the mandatory slaughterhouse requirements.

The responsible official from the inspection body and the head of the Armavir regional center of the Food Safety Authority, Alexander Mkrtchyan, also visited Norapat's lamb slaughter points to assess conditions and opportunities for expansion. It was noted that some points could meet the requirements for slaughterhouses after transformations, while others may not.

Moreover, the discussion included the feasibility of building a slaughterhouse on a cooperative basis by combining the strengths and financial resources of adjacent small slaughter points.
