Compensation for Damages to Soldiers' Lives and Health
The government has proposed amendments to the law on compensation for damages caused to the lives or health of servicemen during the defense of the Republic of Armenia. Deputy Minister of Defense Gabriel Balayan presented the amendments at the Permanent Commission on State-Legal Issues, stating that it is proposed to include cases resulting from the adversary's preemptive actions in the list of compensations for damages to servicemen's lives or health during the defense of the Republic of Armenia.
“Since there are situations during military operations where servicemen are not involved in combat actions and are not performing combat tasks, but suffer health damage due to the adversary's long-range shelling or other reasons, their status does not provide a socially secure situation,” he said.
Member of Parliament Kristine Poghosyan inquired, “What kind of compensation are we discussing, which types of injuries are covered, and do previous cases fall under the regulations?”
He clarified, “The same format will apply. If the damage resulted from the adversary's preemptive actions, it will be included in the list of cases subject to compensation.”
