Alik Sargsyan Fights Back at the Special Investigation Service
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: According to the information from "Zhoghovurd" daily, last week the Special Investigation Service (SIS) summoned former Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, who is facing charges in the case of March 1, for questioning, where he reportedly "fought back." The matter is that the SIS invited Alik Sargsyan and proposed whether he agrees to dismiss the criminal case against him on the grounds of the statute of limitations.
However, according to our sources, Sargsyan refused the offer, arguing that he had not been invited for questioning for a day after the charges were brought against him, to understand who had given testimony against him, what was reported to the investigators, and whether there was any truth in it.
Notably, throughout this entire story, it is significant that the SIS investigators have not even questioned Alik Sargsyan within the framework of the charges brought against him. The reason is evident; if he were questioned, he would have denied the statements made by the individual or individuals who testified against him, which is not particularly convenient for law enforcement agencies.
“Zhoghovurd” daily tried to clarify the information with former Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, but he consistently refused to answer our calls, while the SIS stated: “There is no decision to terminate the criminal prosecution on the grounds of the statute of limitations; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.” Time will tell what developments will occur in this case.
