Apricot Festival to Be Held with Great Fanfare in Ararat Region
The Apricot Festival will be celebrated with great fanfare in the Ararat region in 2020. According to Armenian news agency Armenpress, this was announced by the Governor of the Ararat region, Garik Sargsyan, during a meeting with journalists.
"The apricot reaches the regions of Armash and Surenavan first in Armenia, which is why we plan to hold a grand apricot festival this year. In the fall, we will also celebrate the harvest festival," said the Governor.
Regarding the hospitality sector in the region, the Governor emphasized that there are currently no hotels in the area. "Tourists mainly do not stay in our region because we are very close to Yerevan; they lodge in hotels there. Our region is only a stopover for them, particularly in Khor Virap and Noravank," noted Sargsyan.
He added that they face challenges in presenting the region's tourism attractions—such as the ancient site of Dvin, the capital city of Artashat, and other historical places—to tourists appropriately.
Garik Sargsyan assured that all existing issues in the region will be resolved in the coming years, making these sites more accessible to tourists.
