Involvement of Serzh Sargsyan in This Case Has Political Subtext, Babloyan Says
Former National Assembly president Ara Babloyan expects justice in the trial concerning the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. He made this statement while speaking to reporters in the courthouse.
“I believe that Serzh Sargsyan cannot bear responsibility, as he could not allow himself to commit such acts. I know Serzh Sargsyan very well. If there is a flaw in such a competition, then those who are responsible for conducting the competition should also be held accountable,” said Ara Babloyan.
Responding to a journalist's remark that according to the National Security Service's statement, the change in the company occurred at the instruction of Serzh Sargsyan, Babloyan replied, “You said that the NSS says this; I can also tell you that the NSS claims I committed a crime regarding the election of Hrayr Tovmasyan, which has absolutely no basis. If I were not confident that justice exists, I would invite you one day to show you five volumes, and you would see that not a single word can blame Babloyan for wrongdoing.”
Since he is not well acquainted with the details of the case against Serzh Sargsyan, Babloyan stated that he cannot specify which part is fabricated and which part is not. “But the part where Serzh Sargsyan is involved in this case, I find, indeed has a political subtext,” Babloyan concluded, adding that he knows Serzh Sargsyan very well and can affirm that he could not interfere in any case.
