Coronavirus Has Potential to Become a Pandemic, WHO
The outbreak of the new coronavirus disease registered in China and several other countries has the potential to turn into a pandemic, however, it has not yet become one at this time. This was stated by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a press conference held in Geneva on Monday.
“Using the term pandemic is not appropriate because it refers to an epidemic spreading in various parts of the world, but this epidemic has the potential to become a pandemic,” he said. Nevertheless, the WHO chief emphasized that the coronavirus “has the potential to evolve into a pandemic.”
