I Was Going to the Martuni Square in Artsakh Holding My Father's Hand: Armen Grigoryan
Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, reflected on the decision made by the Armenian people on February 20, 1988, through a post on his Facebook page, sharing his memories of that day.
“On February 20, 1988, the people of Artsakh decided to 'Appeal to the Supreme Councils of Azerbaijan and Armenia to request the return of Nagorno-Karabakh from the jurisdiction of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic to that of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic,’ which was a historic decision for the entire Armenian nation. In the following days, I went to the Martuni Square in Artsakh (where a replica of the Opera House stands), holding my father's hand, to participate in the demonstrations. After that, life was disrupted: gunfire, shelling, casualties... This decision had serious consequences, but the Armenian people collectively and honorably fulfilled all the obligations stemming from that decision and emerged victorious from the created situation. Glory to all those who had the courage to stand by that decision and fight until the end. The collective wisdom of the Armenian people reached new heights in the Artsakh struggle,” he wrote.
