First Court Hearing Scheduled in the Case of Serzh Sargsyan
The first court hearing in the case of Serzh Sargsyan and others has been scheduled for February 25 at 15:00. This information was reported by the "Datalex" judicial information system.
On January 29, the indictment was confirmed, and the case was sent to court. Five individuals are in the status of defendants in the criminal case. They face charges under point 1 of part 3 of Article 179 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, namely for organizing, instigating, or facilitating embezzlement or misappropriation of particularly large sums of state funds.
It should be noted that the case involving the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has been assigned to judge Vahe Misakyan of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, who has been a judge at the General Jurisdiction Court of Shirak Province since 2017 and was appointed to the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court at the end of 2019.
Also involved in the criminal case are former Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and Barsik Beglaryan, the owner of the "Flash" company. The National Security Service announced the charges against the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on December 4, 2019. According to the official statement, while serving as President of Armenia, he used his official position to organize the embezzlement of 489,160,310 AMD (Armenian dram) through the means of misappropriation by a group of officials in 2013. He has been charged under point 1 of part 3 of Article 179 of the Criminal Code, with the chosen precautionary measure being a signature to ensure he does not flee.
