Jonathan Lacôte Finds Armenian Political Leaders' Books Interesting for the International Community

The Ambassador of the French Republic to Armenia, Jonathan Lacôte, considers the books of Armenian political leaders to be of interest to the international community. In response to a question from Armenpress, the ambassador made this statement during a discussion on February 17 regarding the books "Revolution" by French President Emmanuel Macron and "Common Declaration" by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"I believe the books of Armenian political figures can also be successful abroad because what happened in Armenia in 2018 was widely resonant. Many countries around the world are fighting for democracy, and Armenia's case was a beautiful example of how to achieve it. I think if they write about that revolution, the book will receive a significant response outside of Armenia," said Lacôte.

The discussion on the books was also attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigor Hovhannisyan and the Chairman of the National Assembly's Permanent Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan. The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that he has not read the books yet, but has followed the reactions they have generated due to his work. "As a working diplomat, I am aware of the waves that were created in France, Canada, and on the international stage following the publication of these books. It is also notable that this event takes place shortly before the traditional week of Francophonie, and the number of French speakers in Armenia is steadily increasing," noted Hovhannisyan.

Arman Yeghoyan stated that Emmanuel Macron's book is a unique manifesto. "I would call Macron's book a manifesto, and I can say that now Macron is striving to implement the promises made in the book or addressing the issues he considered problematic before being elected president," said Yeghoyan. The books of the leaders of France and Canada were translated into Armenian during the Francophonie summit held in Armenia in 2018.
