Syrian Parliament Adopts Resolution Recognizing and Condemning Armenian Genocide

The Syrian Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide on February 13. This was reported by journalist Sargis Kasarjyan from Syria.

Earlier, Aleppo's "Gandzasar" had informed that the agenda of the parliamentary session included a resolution, presented by the Syria-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, affirming the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by Ottoman Turkish officials in the 20th century and genocides against other representatives of the Syrian people.

Syrian parliament member Nora Arisyane stated that more than 30 parliamentary bodies from different countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide, and that the Syrian parliament held a special session in homage to the victims of the great crime of the early 20th century.

Secretary of the Syrian Parliament Rami Saleh noted that while the parliament paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, a formal resolution was necessary.

Mohammed Haj Ibrahim, the Syrian Ambassador in Armenia, emphasized the importance of Syria's recognition of the Armenian Genocide, pointing out that the descendants of the perpetrators are still committing similar atrocities against the Syrian people through the hands of terrorists.

“The recognition is crucial, as Lebanon is the only Arab country that has so far acknowledged the Armenian Genocide,” he stated.

The chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs, Boutrous Marjanen, stressed that the Armenian Genocide is a historical fact that was followed by the massacre of Assyrians and Syriacs along Syria's northern borders.
