Out of 326 Pardon Requests, the President Freed a Convict with Only One
During today’s session of the National Assembly, Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Ghaliyam presented details regarding the number of applications and releases that have occurred since the adoption of the "Law on Pardon." According to her, the special commission sends pardon requests to the Prime Minister, who then forwards them to the President.
Therefore, according to the Deputy Minister, since the adoption of the law in 2018, the Ministry of Justice has received 326 requests for pardon. Of these, 316 passed the filter of the special commission and were forwarded to the President by the Prime Minister. President Armen Sarkissian has granted only five of these requests; according to the Deputy Minister, in one case, the convict was released, while in the other four cases, the sentences were reduced.
