Call to Abstain from Participation in the Authorities' Another Illegal Act and Ignore the Referendum: ARF Supreme Body
The Supreme Body of the ARF has issued a statement urging citizens not to participate in the authorities' latest illegal act and to ignore the referendum scheduled for April 5 regarding the Constitutional Court.
The full statement is as follows:
“Unfortunately, we have to state: the current political authority, disregarding numerous appeals and warnings, is dragging the country into yet another adventure. By manipulating and distorting the referendum, which is an essential institution of direct democracy, the authorities are masking their goal of establishing personal rule at all costs and their inability to neutralize the threats facing the country.
Condemning the behavior of the political authority in artificially shaping an agenda through demagogic methods, the ARF Supreme Body raises an alarm about this unconstitutional process, declaring that it is unacceptable for the authorities to resolve issues through illegal means.
Accordingly:
- We call on the citizens of the Republic of Armenia not to participate in the latest illegal act initiated by the authorities, to ignore the referendum set for April 5, sending a clear message to the authorities that the people are tired of populism, artificial agendas, and the divisive politics of 'blacks' and 'whites,' as well as the continuous shocks that have not contributed to the growth of public welfare or real democracy.
- We appeal to political parties, civil society, and our compatriots to unite their efforts to exclude the 'Yes' and prevent this anti-state process, and ultimately to embark on the implementation of real reforms. To achieve these objectives, the ARF will undertake necessary actions.
