Proposal for Foster Care Benefit Introduced in Parliament
A number of lawmakers have presented a bill in the National Assembly proposing the establishment of a foster care benefit for individuals who provide permanent care for others. My Step faction member Narek Zeynalanyan stated that the draft has been coordinated with the Ministry of Health.
Zeynalanyan explained that initially they included all caregivers, but the projected costs were significant—amounting to billions of drams. Following consultations with various organizations, it was decided that the program would currently include only those individuals who care for children under the age of 14, under specific circumstances.
The legislator noted that this group of individuals is the most vulnerable, comprising about 430 people. Each caregiver will receive a monthly benefit of 26,500 drams.
