Court Rejects Application to Arrest Narek Mutafyan
In the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, chaired by Judge Armine Meliksetyan, the prosecutor’s application to arrest Narek Mutafyan, an associate of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharian, was rejected during a hearing concerning both Mutafyan and his co-defendant Sargis Ohanyan. The prosecutor had argued that Mutafyan, if at large, could commit new offenses.
In an interview with NEWS.am, the defendants’ lawyer Vahe Yeprikyan stated that the prosecutor’s application was baseless and should be dismissed. “It is unclear what crime Mutafyan is supposed to commit or how the prosecutor arrived at such a conclusion. The prosecutor even deemed the application of bail inadmissible,” he noted.
It is important to recall that both Sargis Ohanyan and Narek Mutafyan have been charged with asking questions of Judge Anna Danibekyan, who is involved in Kocharian's case, in public and filming those inquiries, which the preliminary investigation body has interpreted as an obstruction of justice.
