Comprehensive Renovation of the Wind-Damaged St. John Chapel in Ghaltaghchi
According to the Facebook page of the Gugark Diocese of the Armenian Church, the roof of the St. John Chapel in the community of Hartaghuys (Ghaltaghchi) in the Lori region was completely damaged by strong winds during the night of February 4-5. Under the initiative of the Gugark Diocese, restoration work on the significant shrine will begin, weather permitting.
On this occasion, the Primate of the Gugark Diocese, His Eminence Archbishop Sepuh Chuljyan, stated: “Following the guidelines of architects and constructors from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Ministry of Culture, we will seek fundamental solutions and reconstruct the roof of the sanctuary. This time, the renovation will be comprehensive and solid.”
Previously, the roof of the sanctuary had been damaged several times by the wind. There have also been incidents where fires broke out inside due to candle lighting, causing significant damage to the sacred icons within the chapel.
