Xi Jinping's Picture with Medical Mask Featured on Time Magazine Cover
The portrait of Chinese President Xi Jinping wearing a medical mask will appear on the cover of the new issue of Time magazine. The publication announced this on its Twitter account on February 6.
The lead article features titles of three essays dedicated to the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus and the potential political and economic consequences for China: "The Chinese Test," "Preventing the Next Outbreak," and "Economic Threat." Additionally, a tweet linked to an article titled "The Spread of the Coronavirus Could End Xi Jinping’s Dreams of a Century of Greatness."
On February 6, China's State Committee of Hygiene and Health reported that the number of cases of infection with the 2019-nCoV coronavirus in China had surpassed 28,000, with 563 deaths and 1,153 recoveries. According to central government data, more than 186,300 people are currently under quarantine in the country. The highest number of reported cases, 19,600, are in Hubei province. There, 549 people have died, and 633 have been discharged from hospitals.
