The Likely Cause of the Camel's Death Revealed: The Zoo Will Be Temporarily Closed

EcoNews.am has reported that animals have died at the Yerevan Zoo. On February 5, the Yerevan Environmental Committee issued a statement: 'On January 30 of this year, one of the dromedary camels from the Yerevan Zoo’s “Camelids” division (1 female, aged 20) has died. Samples from the animal's internal organs have been sent to the Republican Veterinary and Sanitary Laboratory Service Center of the State Service for Food Safety.

Microscopic examinations of the samples revealed bacteria characteristic of tuberculosis pathogens. Currently, the Zoo is taking necessary measures to conduct preventive work against the disease. In case of new developments, the Zoo will issue an additional announcement.'

Later, the Environmental Committee also announced that the Zoo would be temporarily closed to visitors.
