«Zhoghovurd». A Call to the MoD Hot Line Reported That Officials' Sons Are Harassing Others in a Military Unit
«Zhoghovurd» newspaper reports that according to its sources, up until January 30, the day of Vahram Avagyan’s death, a call was made to the hot line of the Ministry of Defense in October 2019 by a citizen, which was accepted by the MoD as a report of a crime.
The citizen stated that in one of the military units of the Armed Forces, where sons of officials serve, including Davit Movsesyan, the son of Arakel Movsesyan, the soldiers were being harassed.
When this information was reported to the Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan, he, according to our information, instructed to compile a report, and the complaint was immediately forwarded to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan. Judging by the situation, either Chief Davtyan took ineffective steps, was not listened to, or did not take any action, which ultimately led to the tragic incident involving Vahram Avagyan months later.
«Zhoghovurd» attempted to clarify the information received from the hot line and the subsequent actions from Gevorg Altunyan, head of the Ministry of Defense’s Department of Information and Public Relations, but he promised to respond all day, and in the evening asked to send the question for a written response.
According to «Zhoghovurd», several meetings were held yesterday in the Ministry of Defense to discuss the situation and find solutions, including the discussion of the information we provided, for which there was no answer throughout the day in the MoD.
