Artsakh's Minister of State Meets with Members of the Commission on Small Hydropower Plants

The Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh, Grigori Martirosyan, met on February 4 with members of the commission studying the impact of small hydropower plants on the environment. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Minister's Office.

Welcoming the attendees, the Minister stated: “The government of the Republic of Artsakh, being attentive to the concerns regarding the potential negative impact of the construction and operation of small hydropower plants on the environment, has undertaken a comprehensive and objective study of the issue. The government has committed to forming a professional, independent commission and has approached the government of Armenia with a request to involve experts from the fields of environmental protection and hydropower in the commission.”

He expressed gratitude to their Armenian partners for their willingness to send specialists to the Republic of Artsakh.

Grigori Martirosyan presented the composition of the commission, noting that two experts from the Republic of Armenia represent the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, while high-qualified experts from the non-governmental sector in environmental protection and hydropower are also included. From the Republic of Artsakh, members include an MP and specialists from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Economy and Production Infrastructure, and the Commission for Public Services and Economic Competition Regulation.

The government has also approached Alexander Kananyan regarding the inclusion of three members in the commission, of which only one was present at the meeting.

The Minister of State wished the commission members effective work, expressing willingness to support the commission’s operational activities to the best of their ability. Grigori Martirosyan later left the meeting room, while the members of the commission studying the impact of small hydropower plants on the environment continued with their discussions.
